Schell, President of Sidney Blumenthal & Co., Inc. received a letter from James B. Slimmon, Vice President and Sec retary of the Aetna Life Insur ance Company commenting on the distinction which Sidney Blum enthal & and Co., Inc. holds in providing group insurance for its employees. Mr. Slimmon stated: “Since the first policy written by this com pany when it entered the group insurance business in 1913 was written for Sidney Blumenthal & Co., Inc. it seems appropriate that this fact should be mentioned in an article reporting the progress of our company in the group in surance business to our stock holders.” The publication “It’s Your Business” which is issued quarter ly to the stockholders of the Aetna Insurance Company made the following comment: “On January 16, 1913, the Aetna Life Insur ance Company wrote its first group policy, a contract which is still on the books, providing life insurance protection for the em ployees of Sidney Blumenthal & Company.” Sidney Blumenthal & Co. Inc. is proud of the fact that they were pioneers in group insurance. Schell Off For Europe Trophy Now On Display Nationalized industries are “easy competition” for the mod ern individual enterprise system, Herbert H. Schell, president of Sidney Blumenthal and Co., Inc. and a director of the National As sociation of Manufacturers, de clared recently on the eve of his departure for Europe on the Holland-America liner New Am sterdam, to attend meetings of the International Labor Organization and the International Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Schell first will attend the Textile Committee meeting of the International Labor office in Geneva, October 26 to November 5, as joint NAM-United States Chamber of Commerce employer delegate. Then he will go to Paris to attend the Council Session of the International Chamber of Commerce, November 13 to 19, as representative of the NAM. New Safety Director George Harper, Personnel As sistant, has been appointed Safety Director to succeed Clayton Hedgepeth who has served so ef ficiently in this capacity in the past. Harper will direct all safety meetings and is available at the Personnel Office at all times to discuss matters relating to our plant safety campaign. (Turn to Page Two) Caromount Gives Funds Caromount employees are to be congratulated for having made their largest contribution to the Community Chest for the Caro mount Division during the recent 1948 Community Chest Drive. Phis contribution amounted to $344.76. The Company contribut ed -$750.00 making a total from Caromount of $1094.76. The contribution of $344.76 from tbe employees was given by departments as listed below: Warping $15.20 Weaving 91.15 Raw Goods & Mending . 28.72 Engineering 47.25 Office 19.50 Receiving 11.00 Dyehouse 48.50 Finishing 47.50 Final Examining 24.94 Shipping 10.50 Rocky Mount and Wilson high school officials got a “sneak” pre view of a handsome inter-city trophy recently as Resident Man ager E. H. Suessmuth of Sidney Blumenthal and Company, Inc. held a private unveiling in the company offices in Rocky Mount and Wilson. The trophy, more than four feet high, will be known as the Shelton Looms Trophy and will be presented each year to the winner of the Rocky Mount and Wilson football game. The trophy is a gift of the company’s presi dent, H. H. Schell. Rocky Mount and Wilson each have plants of Sidney Blumenthal which also operates in Conneticut and Rhode Islano. R. M. Wilson, superintendent, and D. S.Johnson, principal, of Rocky Mount and S. G. Chappell superintendent, George S. Willard, principal of Wilson, and represen- latives of newspapers and radio in these towns were invited for this preview. The trophy was unveiled by Mayor Bennett and Co-captains Bobby Joe Baker and Charlie Batchelor on the evening of Oc tober 28 at appropriate ceremon ies in Rocky Mount and by May or Hale and Co-captains Dick (iillette and Glenn Land on Octob er 21 in Wilson.
